Snakes in the Woods

Dad had sent the two older boys (Gerald and Eugene) down the fence roll to find wood big enough to cut for firewood. And after searching around for a bit, they had found a nice Log, a big enough log that it required two of them to carry it. You could hear them coming down the road talking and carrying a black oak log on their shoulders. The boys were laughing and talking while they were walking down the road. The log they were carrying was big to look more like a tree then it did a log. There were no branches left on the tree and you could see the inside part of the log was hollow partway to the inside. As the boys reached the entrance to the lane which led up to our house, they threw the log down and stretching their shoulders for a minute they just stood there, then just as suddenly started running away from the log yelling and screaming to one another. "Go, get the shovel" "You get a Hoe" the other one said then they ran to an old car sitting there that didn't run anymore and climbed right up on top of the car and waited. "There they are," They said, "Get a Hoe, Quick" "Run, get a Hoe." And then we saw what they were running from. Out of the log they had carried so far on their backs were 2 large snakes. One of them was a Blue Racer; the other one looked like a Diamond Back Rattler. Both of the snakes were after the two boys. The snakes were angry and after the fall from the tree were not ready for what had happened to them. They were busy spitting and lunging after them and up as far as possible to get to them. Meanwhile the two boys were standing up and trying to keep away from them toward the top of the car. It was early spring and it looked like the snakes had been hibernating for a while. Apparently when the boys tossed the log from their shoulders they had loosened the snakes from their beds and the snakes weren't very happy about it. The boys were now in the battle of their lifetime for inadvertently waking up two snakes that weren't ready to be waked up just yet. "Go, get Dad, they said." He's asleep in the house. He said. "Go wake him up," they said to my younger brother. "Go," "Go now." "Get Dad." "Now" they yelled.

Dad came running out of the house calling for the boys to get him a hoe. "We can't" they said. The snakes, however, were beginning to calm down a little bit. They had started to slither off through the garden. "Oh! My God," the Boys said. I thought we had had it that time and then would you believe they started laughing again. We were sure glad to see the snakes go on through the garden. Dad laughed, "Ha-Ha, Ha he said until He finally held both his sides. When we finished telling him about the snakes I guess you could say we sure made the snakes mad.
