Spiritual Poverty

If I had to worry or to be concerned about nutrition or malnutrition, or whether or not I was sickly or alive and doing very well, If I had clothes that would fit my body naturally without pins or belts to hold my pants up, along with shoes on my feet and a bed at night. I would have to ask myself if I would be satisfied with all of that, or would something be missing for me.

When I take these things into consideration I ask myself what the State, or Federal government defines as poverty. Health Textbooks, and other human service organizations like the Red Cross, DCFS, or HS maintain that it is essential for every person to h ave good nutrition in their diet and that good nutrition is the basis for a decent lifestyle. 3 balanced meals a day, good clothes to wear, shoes on your feet, A warm and comfortable bed at night- These are factors that determine how well we are getting along in life. We would all like to be assured of this and more as we seek the daily comforts of life. For there is more to life than Food, Health, Clothes, Shoes, A warm bed and other things.

However, if I look upon your countenace and I can see that there are worry lines upon your face or marks where you have been crying then I can assume that all is not well with you. If I look down and see that you are not wearing good shoes but instead a pair with the sole flapping I can then assume that maybe you are having trouble. If I see that you have not been able to clean your clothes in the wash or I can see that you are not sleeping well then I can assume that you are malnutritioned. In fact I may have to assume that you are more than malnutritioned. IN fact that you need help.

Now before I go any further with you at this point I want to point out some things to you. These things are important to you and to me. There are 24 Hours in a day. In a week there are a total of 168 hours. There are 672 hours in a month plus or minus a few. Of this the average amount of time that we spend in Church is an average of 3 hours a week in Church. If the month has four weeks in it thats 12 hours a week in Church during the Month. Did you know thats that is less than 24 hours a month? And only you can tell the number of minutes that you spend in prayer, each hour, day, week, or month

The poverty level for the soul in prayer has to be a sharp contrast for the poverty of the physical body. It is unhealthy for you to think that you can give your soul such a short ration of prayer and believe that you can do anything for God. Let us therefore take up our Bible and read it and Pray for others. For clearly the World is in need of Prayer.  For spiritually we are in poverty.
